Emily As The Skin That Blisters Will Blister Again

I am no longer pretty,
but to her credit
& to the credit
of what she can do
with a proper focus,
I don’t need to be
pretty to feel
like a chandelier
falling to become
the inelegant crunch
her heel can
make into music.

POEM FOR KATIE, QUEEN OF OHIO #71

All men are lobbyists.
Don’t hire any of them.
Be an army with actual
swagger. Be confident
enough to listen to anyone
& ignore almost everyone.
Make it all women.
I find no fault in naming
my gender a danger
& a novelty. I should
be given no extra con-
sideration. Not me.

TRUMP AS A FIRE WITHOUT LIGHT #402

We could have built things with all of this driftwood.  They didn’t have to burn
everything.  They didn’t have to toss all of that ash into the skyline.

The Barn Without Color

We all wanted to know
what we would find
in a dilapidated barn

that had lost all red
& all symbol, that had
wood that didn’t reach

the ground.  All we
found was each other
& enough straw

to sit down for a while.
Our car was broken
down & while we sang

songs waiting
for the tow, more birds
showed up than left

& that is our Ohio.
